Get ready to turn your house into a Summer Olympic stadium with some fun family activities that will bring everyone together, spark creativity, and create lasting memories of the Summer Games!
Turn your house into a craft workshop—Olympics style! Use cardboard, construction paper, tissue paper, and other materials around the house to create awesome DIY torches, rings, medals, and more—replicate flags of the United States and other countries. Create signs to support your favorite athletes while you watch them compete on the big stage.
Who knows the most Olympic trivia? Make it more fun with silly Olympics-inspired prizes like a box of Wheaties cereal, DIY wreaths, medals, or let the winner choose dinner for the night!
Make watching the events an interactive experience for the entire family. Play I Spy or create your own Olympic bingo cards. Can you find something red, white, and blue, the Olympic rings, goggles, or hurdles?
Get your kids' summer brains working with some fun STEM activities. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics—all of my son’s favorite things! Design your own made-up Olympic sport or build a mini Olympic stadium out of blocks, cardboard boxes, or anything else you have lying around.
Turn your backyard into an Olympic arena with an obstacle course. Use hula hoops, jump ropes, cones, or whatever you can find to challenge each other and work together to reach the finish line.
If you’re lucky enough to have your own pool, organize some Water Olympics events! Diving contests, cannonball competitions, swimming races, synchronized swimming routines, handstands, and other cool tricks are all on the list. Don’t have a pool? Make a big splash with these activities at your local swimming spot—you might even make new friends who want to join the fun.
Turn the Olympics into a learning experience with educational activities that teach your children about different countries, sports, and cultures. Find countries on the map, research the foods they eat, and other fun facts about the athletes and the countries they represent. Step outside your sports comfort zone and tune in to a sporting event your family doesn’t usually watch. See who can be the first to figure out the rules and become the expert commentator for the event.
Keep your littlest ones entertained with Olympics-themed activity sheets and coloring pages. There are plenty of free online printables for hours of fun. Have them proudly display their colorful creations around your home to get everyone in the Olympic spirit.
What exciting activity will your family try to celebrate the spirit of the Olympics?
