There are so many ways to explore and make memories with your family all year round; each of the four seasons deserves its own bucket list, an unofficial list that you keep mentally or physically of things you want to get done or activities you want to do in a given amount of time. And maybe it’s the newness of this time of year and the finally-nice-weather, but spring is an especially great time to get out and plan fun to-dos with your kids.
Whether your crew is the nature-loving type or more indoor kids, these 18 family activities are worth adding to your spring to-dos:
Outdoor spring bucket list ideas:
Visit a local florist to pick out some in-season blooms, like peonies, roses and daffodils. Then have your kids assemble a pretty bouquet for a special teacher, friend or family member
Take a trip to a neighborhood nursery and buy ready-to-plant plants that you can pot right into your dirt, or buy seeds to start your own mini garden
Go to a petting zoo or a traditional zoo. The animals may have been hibernating for winter, but now, they’re back out in the sunshine and ready to greet guests
Enjoy a family hike or bike ride in a local park that you haven’t visited since last year
Fly a kite where there’s plenty of open air, like a sandy shore, park or large backyard
Lean into April showers! Deck yourselves out in rain boots, ponchos and umbrellas for what’s sure to be a memorable romp in the puddles
Get creative with sidewalk chalk before it gets too hot and sticky outside. Draw a life-size board game, trace each other’s bodies or play a good ol’ game of hopscotch
Go to the beach. If you live near the ocean, take advantage of the off-season quiet. Bring sand toys to entertain the kids, along with a picnic lunch and snacks
Host a backyard egg hunt (whether you celebrate Easter or not). Those plastic eggs are on sale now—so buy a few, fill them with treats and hide them in the backyard for an easy activity
Go stargazing in the backyard. You can even set up a tent and a fire pit for the full camping effect
Go for ice cream at an outdoor ice cream shop. Many ice cream parlors close for the winter and are opening back up for the season; get in those first licks now!
Plan a professional family photo session. Why wait until the fall when all the good photographers are booked up? Booking a family photoshoot no will give you a headstart on your holiday card, plus gorgeous blooms like cherry blossoms will make the perfect backdrop
Practice for youth spring sports, whether that means playing catch with a baseball mitt or trying to score goals in a backyard soccer match
Indoor spring bucket list ideas:
Try a new recipe with in-season fruits like strawberries, blueberries and pineapples, or veggies like asparagus, artichokes and peas. Bonus points if you buy them at a local farmer’s market or pick the berries yourself!
Do some spring cleaning at home, which can mean donating old, ill-fitting clothes, purging the pantry or rotating in new-to-your-kids toys into your playroom that they haven’t seen in a while
Celebrate Earth Day on April 22 with Earth Day crafts that pay homage to our planet
DIY a bird feeder to hang in your yard. You can make a bird feeder out of popsicle sticks, pinecones, recycled cardboard, milk cartons and much more
Host a lemonade stand. Get creative with signage, then find a spot with good foot traffic (or your own driveway works too) to attract customers
